Wan is one of the latest nightclubs in Singapore's fast-paced urban landscape, and it's already looking promising! The name alludes to many different Mandarin terms: night, to play, and bowl. All in all, it combines all the best features of Singapore's nightlife, from great drinks and a rocking atmosphere to amazing local cuisine and beautiful staff.
The venue is split into a bar, a restaurant, and a club. The bar and restaurant make for an excellent choice for dinner before you move onto the fun of the nightclub. Beginning with the restaurant, the food is five star and the service is swift and attentive.
This Pan-Asian paradise is so very international and yet so very Singapore at once, embracing all the cultures that have come together to form this unique, beautiful island nation. The food is inspired by local favourites, and definitely not for a visitor who is not keen on Asian cuisine. But for someone who loves all things Singapore, this club is a sort of heaven.
Stepping through from the restaurant into the nightclub, you get transported to another uniquely Singaporean theme: the ocean and underwater life. An LED-lit bar displays a virtual ecosystem of fish and other sea life, providing gentle illumination and a real wow factor for all involved. Murals displaying koi and coral add some fineness to the room, bringing even more Asian features back in.
Small hints of mermaids and Chinese lanterns contribute to the overall Asian feel and pull it all back together. The lanterns themselves are fun, harmonized with the beat of the music, putting on a bit of a show of their own. It's like everything in this club is alive, from the ceiling to the floor!
As for the music itself, expect an eclectic mix of upbeat, danceable tunes. Featuring mostly international DJs, the music varies from EDM to techno, with some pop and hip hop included as well. Much of the music is without lyrics, which is perfect for a young, very much international crowd wanting to enjoy a truly modern Singaporean experience.
If you want a drink, you need to try their spiked bubble tea. Much like the non-alcoholic variety, it includes the gelatinous bubbles and the sweet and fruity drink... but with an alcoholic twist that will get you buzzing in no time. In addition to that, both the main bar and the club bar offer a full selection of cocktails, wines, and, of course, bottle service options.
Bottle service is great. Beautiful Singaporean waitresses in traditional qipao will serve your drinks attentively. A definite must if you want the full VIP experience.
When it comes to getting in, you have to look stunning, and you have to be on the guest list. Dress code is smart, so men need to at least put on a suit, and women ought to wear a little black dress or another smart cocktail dress. Smart shoes for men and heels for women. Absolutely no sportswear, although women can wear traditional Asian clothes, as long as they are worn correctly. Because this club is so new and popular, if you're not on the guest list you're not getting in.
