At the Vandal club in New York you will be greeted by an edgy aesthetic and a trendy, young atmosphere. It has a sort of punk rocker, anarchist feel to it, and you know when you walk in that you will be surrounded by the coolest people in New York.
The graffiti wall art is inspired by Shepard Fairey's work, sometimes literally taking some of his designs. The boldness of the red black and white, the intricacy of the design, and the roughness of the environment adds to the feeling that you are among young rebels and revolutionaries.
The medley of wooden furnishings and bare bricks, street lamps, fairy lights, and street art gives an appearance of a New York alley, rather than a venue. Adding to that is the green foliage acting as a screen against the windows, rather than the usual print or curtains. The same greenery extends across the ceiling beams, mixed with the fairy lights, making you feel like you're under a blanket of stars or a Mediterranean porch, with grape vines growing up the walls.
The seats are a mix and match, again in-keeping with the anarchist alley theme, some brown leather couches, some tie-dye upholstered dining seats, some round marble topped tables, some glass, and some wooden tables.
The drinks at Vandal club New York are well priced and fairly traditional as far as bottles and cocktails go. Some may find this a bit disappointing considering the otherwise rebellious nature of the venue, but the drinks are delicious nonetheless.
Vandal also offers a full restaurant menu. The food is not amazing, but is definitely pretty good and filling, and the prices are quite reasonable for a New York restaurant menu. They serve a medley of American, Mexican, and European dishes, so you are bound to find something that you will enjoy.
It opens early and closes late, making for a long night out if you want to really take your time. You could easily have dinner in Vandal and then stay as it transforms for the night life, enjoying the music and the crowd. Expect to talk a lot. The sort of people you find at Vandal nightclub are likely to want to chat, and tend to be very open and friendly. This is a place for socializing, not for dancing.
Despite it being a fairly welcoming place and the staff being basically perfect, the wait in queue can be a bit frustrating. Bear in mind it is very busy and even if you have a reservation there may not be a table for you yet. Rest assured that staff are making sure you get your table as soon as possible, but expect to wait a bit.
And remember that being in the restaurant doesn't guarantee entry to the club! The club downstairs has a fairly heavy door fee if you are not on a guest list and do not have reservations. So make sure to get on the guest list or to order bottle service.
