River North has a new club where customers can party most nights until 4 a.m. (until 5 a.m. on Sunday), while they sip on boozy drinks served in plastic containers reminiscent of a kid’s juice box, and shots are served out of a slot machine. Stone Lotus nightclub once stood at 873 N. Orleans Street where you will now find the three-level, 7,500 square-foot-space club that brings a playful attitude to town. A trio of local artists, Jacob Wayne, David Bozic, and Fidel Rodriguez contributed work, creating a unique space that’s distinctively Chicagoan.
The club holds a late-night liquor license, which enables the bar to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. every day except Saturday into Sunday when the bar can stay open until 5 a.m. While there’s plenty of music and dancing, LiqrBox’s owners also wants to stress the food component. You can snack on pizza puffs and short rib Italian beef in the first floor, while deciding whether or not to take a pineapple and jalapeño-infused tequila shot from a slot machine at the cocktail lounge. They’ve brought in Mark Sparacino, chef/owner of Prosecco, the Italian restaurant that’s been around since 2007 in River North and who keeps the kitchen open until 3:00 a.m.
The drinks are whimsical. The LiqrBox’s signature selection is the adult juice box. There’s beverages that come out of gas station-inspired dispensers and slot machines. They are small enough to fit into a front coat pocket. The drink will come in seven different flavors, designated by a different colored box. Summon yourself a "Blue" that, according to the folks behind the bar, "taste like unicorns." Or opt for the Rainbow Beat Box, which gets you all six juice box flavors and, presumably, one of the more potent hangovers of your adult life. Which will be very well earned. They’ll also serve a selection of classic drinks to please purists.
With a late night liquor and food license to boot, LiqrBox plans on serving childhood favorites well past your bedtime every time you visit it. The space is will host music and the interiors will include tall plush booth seating installed against street-art inspired walls, a gloriously ridiculous new neon funhouse where you'll be dancing all night long. The first thing you might notice upon arriving up is that local artists have reimagined classic Italian frescos in spray paint and the exposed brick walls covered in collage-style street art. The space will host music to dance, mostly top 40 with a mix of EDM and hip hop.
